Family and day clubs. Some clubs focus on the daytime, with shallow pools and a calmer crowd that suits families.

Clifftop clubs. On the Bukit, the clubs sit above the ocean instead of on the sand, with dramatic views and a premium feel.

Beach Clubs in North Bali: A Handful of Small Venues Around Lovina

The north coast has a handful of beachfront venues around Lovina, each with a pool, a bar and a view over the calm Bali Sea. They are far smaller than the clubs of Seminyak or Canggu, and the north has no mega-club scene.

The sea on this coast is flat. The day revolves around swimming, a long lunch and the evening light, with no surf and no DJs.

For snorkelling, the dawn dolphin boats go out from the Lovina beach at sunrise. Ask the captain, or the place you are staying, whether the trip can add a stop on the reef.

Spice Beach Club, Kaliasem

Where: on the sand at Jalan Seririt-Singaraja No. 225 in Kaliasem, just west of central Lovina.

What it has: a beachfront lounging area, a pool, a restaurant and bar with an international menu, a spa and live music. The club bills itself as a sunset spot and runs an events calendar on its own site.

What to know: its opening hours are on that site, and reservations go through WhatsApp.

Best for: the full beach-club day, as the north coast's closest match to the clubs described above. Come in the late afternoon, swim, and stay for dinner.

Lovina Beach Club & Resort, Tukadmungga

Where: on the coast road east of central Lovina.

What it has: a swimming pool that opens onto the sand, the Sea Sky restaurant with ocean views, a spa, and canoes free for in-house guests. Despite the name, this is a beachfront hotel first.

What to know: if you are only coming for the day, ask ahead whether outside guests can use the pool and on what terms.

Best for: a place to stay with a beach-club feel.

Krisna Watersports, Temukus

Where: the Krisna group's waterfront park, on the coast road west of Lovina.

What it has: its site lists jet skis, banana and donut boats, parasailing and a pool, with free pool use for guests who take a ride.

What to know: ride tickets and pool hours are on its own site. There are engines on the water and rides to queue for.

Best for: families who want a pool and the sea with more going on. It suits children and groups better than a quiet sundowner.

A Sunset Drink Without the Club

None of these venues carry DJ lineups or large crowds. For a simple sunset drink, a beachfront warung or cafe along Kalibukbuk does the job for less.
