A north Bali elopement package is usually a resort's small-wedding offer: a celebrant or a priest, a spot on the sand or a deck in the forest, flowers, and dinner for two afterwards. The north suits it. The beaches are quiet, the national park is on the doorstep, and the highlands behind Munduk are cool enough for a jacket. This page covers where two people can marry up here, what the resorts publish, and the one decision to make before any of it: legal or symbolic.
In Brief
The simplest way to elope to Bali is to marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here, which needs no Indonesian paperwork. On the north coast, Puri Bagus Lovina lists a couple's wedding among its wedding types, The Menjangan in West Bali National Park offers a Romantic Escape Wedding, and Menjangan Dynasty Resort publishes an intimate wedding package on Banyuwedang Bay. In the highlands, planners who cover Munduk offer small ceremonies with the valley or a waterfall behind you. A legal marriage is possible if you share a religion recognised in Indonesia: you need permission to marry from your own embassy, a religious ceremony, and registration with Buleleng's civil registry in Singaraja. Prices and inclusions change, so every package below is linked rather than copied.

What an Elopement Package Covers
An elopement package bundles the few things a ceremony for two needs. The details differ by resort and change with the season, so read the current list on each resort's page before you compare.
Someone to marry you. For a symbolic ceremony, that is a celebrant or a Balinese priest giving a blessing. For a legal marriage, it has to be an officiant of your shared religion, who then signs the statement the civil registry needs.
A place, set up. A decorated spot on a lawn, a beach or a deck, with chairs if anyone is watching.
Flowers and a toast. A bouquet, a buttonhole, something to drink afterwards.
A certificate. Some packages include a commemorative certificate. It is a keepsake. A legal marriage in Indonesia produces a marriage certificate (akta perkawinan) from the civil registry, which is a different document.
What usually sits outside: your photographer, your rooms, dinner, and any legal paperwork. Ask each resort which of these it can add.
Where to Elope in North Bali
On the Beach at Lovina: Puri Bagus Lovina
A beachfront resort at Pemaron, at the Singaraja end of Lovina. Its wedding page offers the Seaview Grill House, "an intimate beachfront setting, perfect for a romantic ceremony with stunning ocean views," with the resort's own wedding planning services behind it. The inquiry form lists a couple's wedding and a romantic dinner among its wedding types, alongside a commitment ceremony, a Balinese blessing and a full legal wedding.

In the National Park: The Menjangan
A resort in West Bali National Park, in the island's far north-west. Its weddings page lists a Romantic Escape Wedding, "Say 'I Do' in a picturesque setting within The Menjangan," and three places to hold it: the fourth floor of its Bali Tower for the ocean view, "a dramatic suspended deck reaching out into the forest canopy," and Sentigi Beach. Its wedding specialists also handle Balinese blessings and full legal weddings.
Good for: a ceremony in the forest or on the beach, with nothing else around. Map · Instagram: themenjanganbali
On Banyuwedang Bay: Menjangan Dynasty Resort
A beach glamping resort at Pejarakan, also in the north-west. Its events page invites couples to "exchange vows and tie the knot on the infinity pool side lawn with a glorious view to the sea and mangrove-entwined coastline or on a blissful white-sand beach lapped by the gentle waters of Banyuwedang Bay," and calls it "an intimate wedding celebration in Northwest Bali." What the package includes is listed on that page; email the resort for the current version.

In the Highlands: Munduk and Bedugul
The hills behind the coast are cool, green and often misty, and they hold the north's waterfalls. Here a planner does the arranging.

Wedding Bali, a small agency based in Sanur, has a Munduk & Bedugul page that names elopements and waterfall ceremonies as what the area is best for, and says the falls between Munduk and Gitgit "range from a short walk off the road to a proper descent, and several of them can hold a small ceremony." Linda Wiryani Design & Event Planning, based in Denpasar, lists waterfall, jungle, rice-field and private-villa elopements, publishes a Munduk destination page, and puts "location sourcing and permits" first in what its elopement planning covers. That permit line is the one to ask any planner about: who grants it, and what it covers. Map · Instagram: lindawiryanievents
The waterfalls themselves, and which are a short walk, are in the north Bali waterfalls guide and Munduk's waterfalls and hikes.
In a Villa
A private villa gives you the garden, the pool and no other guests. It gives you no wedding team, so bring a planner or a celebrant, and tell the owner what you are planning before you book. Linda Wiryani's Lovina page plans "beachfront villa intimate dinner receptions," and Palm Living's villas are around Lovina. For the larger houses, see event villas in north Bali.
Legal or Symbolic: Decide This First
The Symbolic Route
You marry legally at home, before or after the trip, and the ceremony in Bali is the celebration. There is no Indonesian paperwork, the celebrant can be anyone the resort or planner books, and the ceremony can happen anywhere the venue allows. It is the simpler choice, because the legal route needs a shared religion and more days on the island.
The Legal Route in North Bali
A marriage in Indonesia is legal when it is held according to the couple's religion and then registered with the civil registry. The Australian Embassy's guidance says both partners must hold the same religion, one recognised by the Indonesian government, and that for non-Muslim marriages the couple lodge a Notice of Intention to Marry with the civil registry at least ten days before the wedding. On this coast the registry is Buleleng's, in Singaraja. Its marriage certificate requirements set out what two foreign nationals bring.
- Permission to marry from your own country. Buleleng's registry asks for consular permission to marry (izin konsulat), and its explainer on marrying a foreign national adds that the wedding date must fall after the date that letter was issued. Australians get a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage from the Australian Consulate-General in Bali, which covers Bali; the embassy says civil registries do not normally accept one issued more than three months earlier.
- An official translation. The consular permission has to be translated into Indonesian by an official translator, signed and stamped.
- Your originals. Passports, visit visas, birth certificates and, if either of you was married before, proof that the marriage ended. The embassy also lists four passport photos of the couple.
- The notice. Lodged with the civil registry at least ten days ahead of the wedding.
- The religious ceremony. Held by an officiant of your shared religion, who gives you the statement of religious marriage that Buleleng's registry requires.
- Registration. Both of you sign the marriage register in front of a registry officer, with a colour photo of the two of you. Register promptly; Buleleng asks for an extra form when a marriage is recorded more than sixty days after the event.
The Australian Embassy adds that you cannot marry at the embassy or a consulate itself. A planner who offers legal weddings runs these steps for you, and should tell you how many days to allow now. The Menjangan's wedding team and Puri Bagus Lovina both list full legal weddings.
Will It Count at Home?
For Australians, the embassy says a marriage legally performed overseas that would have been legal in Australia is recognised under Australian law, and that there is no registration of it in Australia. For British couples, GOV.UK says to check the law of the country where you marry, get proof that you are free to marry, and take advice from the person conducting the ceremony, the local registering authority or a wedding planner. Couples of other nationalities should ask their own embassy before they book flights.
Timing and Season
Sunset: the sun sets over the sea on this coast, and the time barely moves through the year this close to the equator. A beach ceremony is usually timed to it.

Season: the dry months, roughly April to October, are the safe window for an outdoor ceremony. In the wet months rain tends to come in heavy afternoon bursts, so a morning ceremony has the better odds. When to visit north Bali has the month-by-month pattern.
Nyepi: on the Balinese day of silence the whole island stops, airport included. Check the date before you fix yours; Nyepi explained covers it.
Getting here: allow most of a day to reach the coast from the airport. Getting to north Bali sets out the routes.
After the Ceremony
Stay on. The Damai, a small resort in the hills above Lovina with "just 15 villas," publishes a Damai Romance package "for honeymoons or romantic getaways" on its own site. Map · Instagram: the_damai
The rest of a slow week, from dolphins at dawn to hot springs and the reef at Menjangan, is in the north Bali honeymoon guide.
A Note on the Balinese Meaning
In Balinese custom, elopement is an old and recognised way to marry. Ngerorod is marriage by the couple's own choice, usually when one family objects, with its own sequence of rites that brings the families round afterwards. It has nothing to do with a resort package, and if you hear the word in a village, that is what it means. The custom is explained in the Balinese wedding ceremony.
FAQ
Can you legally elope in Bali? Yes, if you share a religion recognised in Indonesia. You need permission to marry from your own embassy, translated into Indonesian, a religious ceremony by an officiant of your faith, a notice lodged with the civil registry at least ten days ahead, and registration afterwards. In north Bali the registry is Buleleng's, in Singaraja. The simpler route is to marry legally at home and hold a symbolic ceremony here.
Is a Bali elopement legal for Australians? It can be. Australians apply for a Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage at the Australian Consulate-General in Bali, then follow the Indonesian religious and civil registry steps. The Australian Embassy says a marriage legally performed overseas, which would have been legal in Australia, is recognised under Australian law.
What does a Bali elopement package include? Usually a celebrant or priest, a decorated ceremony spot, flowers and a toast, and sometimes a commemorative certificate. Photography, rooms and legal paperwork are often extra. Each resort publishes or sends its own current list; read it before you compare.
Can we elope at a waterfall in north Bali? Planners who cover Munduk say several falls between Munduk and Gitgit can hold a small ceremony. Access and permission are arranged locally, so choose a planner who lists location permits among its services and ask which falls they have used.
How early should we arrive for a legal wedding? The notice of intention to marry has to be lodged with the civil registry at least ten days before the wedding, and your consular permission should be recent. Ask your planner how the timing works now and whether they can lodge the paperwork for you.
Is the certificate from an elopement package a marriage certificate? No. A commemorative certificate is a keepsake. A legal marriage in Indonesia is recorded by the civil registry, which issues the marriage certificate.
