In Brief
Villa Banyan is a private five-bedroom villa at Umeanyar, a village on Bali's north coast west of Lovina. You rent it whole through Palm Living, and it is listed for eight adults and two children.
The house sits on a small cliff, 30 metres above sea level and 300 metres from the beach. Its 18 by 6 metre infinity pool reaches the cliff edge, with views over the sea and the rice paddies.
An old banyan, a majestic fig tree, shades the garden and gives the villa its name. The listing names a staff of cooks, housekeepers, gardeners, a manager, a driver and a security guard.
The Video Tour
The film flies in over the gardens to the house and its pool, then moves through the living room and the dining terrace. It visits a bedroom and a room under the roof beams, and ends back at the infinity pool.

Balinese Roofs Over a Modern House
Villa Banyan is an L-shaped house with 580 square metres of living space. It combines traditional Balinese architecture, such as its alang-alang roof, with modern design and European fittings.
The centre of the house, with the infinity pool, opens to the village's green zone. The pool is set in a natural stone terrace, beside a frangipani and a coral tree.
Inside, a large kitchen with modern appliances serves the house. There is a living and media room with a TV and a surround sound system, and free wifi throughout.
Lounges, dining areas, terraces and balconies around the house are placed to take in the scenery.

Four Main Bedrooms and a Room for Children
The four main bedrooms are close in size, which suits a group of couples or friends. Each has an ocean view, a super-king or king-size bed and its own bathroom.
The bedrooms are furnished in custom teak, with an in-room safe, bathrobes and a hair dryer. The beds have high-quality mattresses and linen, according to the listing.
The fifth bedroom is for younger guests. It has two full-size bunk beds and connects to either of two bedrooms on the ground floor, so parents can keep children close.

Three of the bathrooms are half indoors and half open to the air. They have teak cabinets, double washbasins on terrazzo tops and natural stone floors.
The two master bathrooms sit in a private tropical garden with palm trees and a water wall statue. One of them has a design bathtub, and the toiletries are the villa's own organic range.
Gardens on Three Levels Above the Sea
The house stands in 3,400 square metres of terraced tropical gardens, laid out on three levels. Two bale bengong, the open Balinese gazebos, are built straight into the cliff, looking out to sea.
From the cliff, the view takes in the blue water and the green rice paddies. The fields run right up to the edge of the black volcanic sand.
The back of the property borders a local temple, used for ceremonies two or three times a year. With no direct neighbours, the villa is quiet, yet local restaurants and small resorts are close by.

Umeanyar: A Tourism Village in Seririt District
Umeanyar is one of the tourism villages of Seririt district, which Northbound's Seririt guide covers. Seririt itself is a market town between Lovina and Pemuteran.
The village's draw is Puri Jati, a black-sand beach that the regency's tourism listing says dive centres know well. For a beach town with restaurants and places to stay, Lovina is the nearest.
The Staff and What They Arrange
The listing names English-speaking staff for the villa: a manager who runs the help desk, cooks and housekeepers, two gardeners, a security guard and a driver.
A housekeeper cleans daily and changes the linen and towels. The cook prepares meals on request, and the listing says you pay only for the ingredients.
Massages and beauty treatments can be arranged in the privacy of the villa through the help desk. A gardener and pool attendant keeps the pool and the gardens.
The staff do not live on the property. They work eight hours a day at hours you choose, and a security guard covers the night.
The listing offers these at extra cost:
- airport or hotel transfers, by regular car or VIP car
- daily trips
- laundry and massage
- a babysitter and a baby cot
- a honeymoon or birthday package
- VIP fast-track service at the airport
A highchair is available, you can rent a scooter, and a welcome drink waits on arrival.
Who Villa Banyan Suits
Family groups come first. Four similar main bedrooms and a bunk room that opens off a parents' room give a large family or several couples space to share one house.
Groups of friends get bedrooms of equal standing and a large pool and terraces for the days in. Anyone who values quiet gets a house with no direct neighbours.
For evenings in town, Lovina is the nearest beach town with restaurants. The staff include a driver, and you can rent a scooter.
What's Nearby

- Hot springs and a monastery: Banjar Hot Springs and Brahma Vihara Arama lie east toward Lovina, about 10 minutes apart.
- Dolphins at dawn: the Lovina dolphin boats leave Lovina's beach before first light for a trip of about two hours.

- Waterfalls: Sekumpul is about an hour inland from Lovina.
From Ngurah Rai airport, Lovina is roughly three hours by road over the mountains. Getting to north Bali has the route.
