Pemuteran is a quiet diving village on Bali's far northwest coast, with a reef off the beach and West Bali National Park next door. The villas on this page come in two kinds: whole houses on the sand, rented with a cook or a housekeeper, and pool villas inside a small resort with a restaurant. Why a Villa in Pemuteran
Pemuteran is about 57 km west of Singaraja, according to the regency's culture and tourism office, on the main road along the coast. The same office tells how the village turned itself around: in the 1980s it was remote and poor, and its reef had been damaged by cyanide and blast fishing. Encouraged by a local figure, Anak Agung Prana, the village began farming coral and built its tourism around the reef, and the regency now points to it as a pioneer of eco-friendly village tourism.

That reef is the reason to come. You can snorkel it from the beach, the boats to Menjangan Island leave from nearby, and West Bali National Park starts just to the west. A villa here makes sense for a family or a group who want their own pool and a cook between days on the water. Whole Houses on the Beach
Villa Bali Il Mare
Setting: On the beach at Pemuteran, on 1.3 hectares of land. The regency tourism office lists it under the village of Penyabangan, in the same Gerokgak district.
What the listing says: A beachfront house for eight guests, with four suites and four bathrooms, under a traditional alang-alang thatched roof. The two master suites on the ground floor open onto the terrace and pool, each with a bathtub, an indoor shower and an outdoor shower in a garden; the two upstairs suites have their own terraces over the beach. The living and dining room is 200 square metres under a 15-metre ceiling, with an open kitchen, a billiard table and a reading and TV lounge upstairs. Outside there is a 25 by 5 metre infinity pool with a shallow entry for children, a floodlit tennis court and a yoga pavilion. A housekeeper cleans daily and can cook every meal, a gardener looks after the pool and grounds, and the guest relations team can arrange tours, diving and snorkelling. The staff do not live on site, so you choose the hours they work.

Villa Semadhi
Setting: On the beach at Pemuteran, looking across the bay to the volcanoes of Java.
In their words: A private beachfront property of 3,000 square metres with its own entrance and security. The villa's staff include a personal chef, a butler, security, daily housekeeping and massage therapists who work in the house. The villa says you can watch the sun rise over the Bali Sea and set behind the Java volcanoes. The guest reviews it publishes describe a Balinese-style house of four bedrooms, two with outdoor bathrooms, with kayaks for the bay and a cooking class.

Villa Resorts and a Hillside Retreat
Amertha Bali Villas
Setting: On the bay at Pemuteran, with the coral restoration reef directly in front.
In their words: Fourteen villas, each with a private pool, a koi pond and fountain, a garden, outdoor daybeds and a terrace; you can book a single suite or a whole villa. The resort has an oceanfront restaurant and bar, a beachside pool, and a Balinese spa and meditation centre. Amertha says it was founded on consultation with Pemuteran's village leaders and takes Tri Hita Karana as its guide, that its whole staff lives in the village, and that it supports the coral restoration project in front of it and the sea turtle hatchery run by its neighbours at Reef Seen. Its welcome is signed by its founder, Agung Prana.

Sumberkima Hill
Setting: In the hills at Sumberkima, a village in the same Gerokgak district as Pemuteran, looking out over the sea, the mountains and distant volcanoes.
In their words: A retreat of private villas and rooms, from modern houses to traditional Balinese homes, with options for couples, families and smaller budgets. Two restaurants serve Indonesian and international food: Suma, looking over the sea and valley, and Senja, looking over the valley to the volcanoes. Room service comes from Suma, and you can order a floating breakfast in your villa pool. The retreat arranges snorkelling, diving and mountain treks.

Villas inside the Pemuteran hotels
Several small hotels in and around Pemuteran also let villas: Taman Sari lists villas alongside its suites and cottages, Pondok Sari has a Villa among its room types, and The Menjangan, inside the national park, has Joglo-style Beach Villas and The Residence, a clifftop house of three bedrooms. They are described in boutique hotels in north Bali.
East Along the Coast: Brongbong
Palm Living lists two houses at Brongbong Beach, further east along the coast towards Seririt. The regency tourism office lists both under the village of Celukan Bawang, which, like Pemuteran, is in the Gerokgak district of Buleleng.
Villa Brongbong Pantai
Setting: Right on the beach at Brongbong, in landscaped gardens with palm trees.
What the listing says: A five-bedroom house for ten guests, with four bathrooms and bedrooms upstairs and downstairs, a living room with a full kitchen, and a private infinity pool and a Jacuzzi a few steps from the house, facing the sea. Every bedroom has air conditioning, and there is a gazebo, a massage corner and a playground. Housekeeping and cooking are included, and the listing suggests it for family reunions, birthdays, small weddings and honeymoons.

Villa Brongbong Rimba
Setting: In a country estate a short walk from Brongbong Beach.
What the listing says: Three bedrooms for six guests, two downstairs and one upstairs, each with a double bed, its own bathroom and a view of the pool. There is an infinity pool, a full kitchen, a terrace with loungers, and a bale in the style of a rice barn for massages. As at Brongbong Pantai, a housekeeper cleans daily and can cook.

Palm Living's Villas Around Lovina
Most of Palm Living's rental villas are around Lovina, which is some 10 km west of Singaraja by Lovinalife Room & Cafe's own count, while Pemuteran is about 57 km west of it. That puts the Lovina villas roughly 45 to 50 km east of Pemuteran along the same coast road; our Pemuteran guide puts the drive at about an hour and a half. They are not a base for daily trips to the reef, but they suit a trip that splits its nights: a few in Pemuteran for Menjangan, then a few in Lovina for the dolphins, the waterfalls and the hot springs.

Choosing a Villa in Pemuteran
- Beach or hill. The beach houses put the sea at the end of the garden; Sumberkima Hill trades the beach for a view.
- Staff and meals. Ask who cooks, whether meals are included or charged by the ingredient, and when staff are on site. Several whole-house villas here have staff who come in for the day rather than living in.
- Diving. Ask whether the villa can book a dive centre and the Menjangan boat, and whether gear can be rinsed and dried at the house.
- Bedrooms and bathrooms. Match the listing's guest count to your group, and check which bedrooms are upstairs if anyone finds stairs hard.
- Getting there. Pemuteran is a long drive from the airport in the south; getting to north Bali sets out the routes, and most villas can arrange a transfer.
Practical Notes
- Book direct through each villa's own site or listing, and ask for the total for your dates and group.
- Bring cash for the park, the boats and small warungs in the village; the Bali currency guide covers cards and ATMs.
- The national park charges its own entry for Menjangan and the park trails, usually arranged with the boat.
