The north coast is a fishing coast. Fishing boats work the calm sea off Lovina, Singaraja and Pemuteran, and warungs grill the catch over charcoal within sight of the water. How Seafood Works on the North Coast
The sea off Lovina is relatively calm, and visitors go out on it in fishermen's boats, as the Buleleng district office notes; the dawn dolphin trips are the best known. Some of the grills below say they buy straight from local fishermen, and on beaches where the boats are pulled up, like Kerobokan in Sawan, the Buleleng tourism office lists food stalls selling fish.
The coast divides into three stretches. Around Lovina, the fish grills sit on the main road and the beach at Kalibukbuk and Anturan. In Singaraja, the seafood places cluster near the shore at Penimbangan and Banyuasri. Around Pemuteran, 90 minutes west, the two below belong to a dive bungalow and a national-park resort. Lovina
Ikan Bakar Tanjung Alam
What we can point you to: A report in Sightseeing Bali (A. Putra, May 2024) describes Warung Lesehan Ikan Bakar Tanjung Alam as a place to eat seafood after the dolphin trip, selling "aneka seafood yang fresh langsung diambil dari nelayan lokal," fresh seafood taken straight from local fishermen, in a spacious setting with a view. Lesehan means you can eat sitting on mats. We found no website of its own, so we describe nothing more.
Where: Jalan Raya Singaraja to Seririt, Kalibukbuk, Lovina. Map
Go for: a whole grilled fish after the morning boat.
Warung Dolphin
What it says about itself: Its Instagram carries the name "SeaFood Balinese" and is run in the voice of Captain Gede Masda, who writes that he has run dolphin tours since 1991. It posts the warung's evenings of seafood and live music with a singer, and a WhatsApp number for booking.
Where: On the beach at Anturan, the village east of Kalibukbuk. Map
Go for: eating seafood with the man who will take you to the dolphins the next morning.
The Sunset Bar at The Lovina
What it says about itself: "As you are enjoying the sensational view, our chef is busy preparing your favourite Seafood, Steak or Nasi Goreng," with a menu that "changes continually to provide you with the freshest local produce." A recent Instagram post says its sunset evenings, with live music, are open to the public.
Where: The Lovina resort, Jalan Mas, Kalibukbuk, on the beach. Map

Warung Bambu Pemaron
What it says about itself: "Traditionally cooked Balinese and Indonesian food, using only the freshest ingredients," in a restaurant built of bamboo; its website names seafood among the dishes, alongside kare, tim babi and urab, and it runs Balinese cooking classes.
Where: Jalan Hotel Puri Bagus, Pemaron, east of Lovina on the Singaraja side. Map
Go for: seafood as part of a full Balinese meal, and a cooking class if you want to learn the spice paste.

Krisna Osea Park
What it says about itself: Its Buleleng tourism office listing names a "Dungki Special Seafood menu and also western food," and presents the park as a venue for weddings, gatherings and birthdays. Its Instagram calls it a "restoran tepi pantai dengan menu beragam," a beachfront restaurant with a varied menu.
Where: Jalan Raya Seririt to Singaraja, Temukus, on the coast west of Lovina. Map
Go for: a family lunch by the sea on the way west.

Singaraja and the East
Warung Makan Pidade
What it says about itself: Its Buleleng tourism office listing describes a spacious restaurant close to the beach where "the menu is dominantly seafood," with seating on mats (lesehan), in huts or at tables, and many staff, so the service is fast. It is not far from the centre of Singaraja.
Where: Jalan Pidada, Banyuasri, Singaraja. Map

Cozy Resto
What it says about itself: "A restaurant located on the edge of Penimbangan Beach," per its Buleleng tourism office listing, whose main menu is "a variety of delicious and fresh seafood dishes, shrimp, squid, sea bream and more," with fruit cocktails, mocktails and wine. Its own website no longer loads, and an Instagram account under the same name belongs to a different restaurant, so the listing is what we can show you.
Where: Jalan Pura Segara Penimbangan, Baktiseraga, Singaraja. Map
Go for: seafood on Singaraja's own beach.
Warung Bokir, Kerobokan Beach
What we can point you to: Koran Buleleng told its story in June 2025. Putu Ayu Darmini and her husband Nyoman Sumanasa, both from Kerobokan village, started with a small stall in 2004 while he fished. In 2005 the customary village opened kiosks on the beach and she took the easternmost one, and she began grilling the fish he caught with her own spice mix. An old customer told her to sell nothing but grilled fish, and she did. When the paper wrote about it in 2025, the couple were still running it.
Where: Kerobokan beach, Sawan, east of Singaraja. This is the north's Kerobokan, not the one in the south; the Buleleng tourism office describes a quiet beach with fishing boats and food stalls, good for sunset and sunrise. Map
Go for: grilled fish at a family stall on a working fishing beach.
Pemuteran and the West
Pemuteran is about 90 minutes west of Lovina, a dive village on the edge of West Bali National Park.
Tirta Sari
What it says about itself: The restaurant menu on the Tirta Sari Bungalows website has a full seafood section: seafood in banana leaf, seafood curry, grilled prawns with lemon garlic sauce, seafood satay, grilled and fried calamari, and grilled fillet of white fish or tuna. It also lists chicken or duck betutu and suckling pig to order a day ahead, and a cooking class.

Go for: seafood in banana leaf, and a betutu ordered the day before.
Pantai Restaurant at The Menjangan
What it says about itself: "Seafood and BBQ Grill." The resort writes that "down at Sentigi Beach is Pantai Restaurant which features mouthwatering seafood dishes and a barbecue grill," with a wooden deck where the waves run beneath your feet at high tide. Its signature dish is grilled mahi-mahi fillet, and its menus include a Balinese BBQ dinner and a vegan menu.

Go for: lunch over the water after a day at Menjangan Island.
How to Order Grilled Fish
The dish is ikan bakar. The words mean "grilled fish." In Indonesia it is fish or other seafood grilled over charcoal, often with bumbu (spice paste), kecap manis (sweet soy sauce) and sambal, as Wikipedia's entry describes. Goreng means fried, so ikan goreng is fried fish.
Choose the fish, then the method. At a fish grill, ask which fish came in that day and look at it before it is cooked. Then say how you want it: bakar for the grill, goreng for the fryer. If the fish is sold by weight, ask the weight and the price before it goes on the coals.
Banana leaf is its own method. Pepes is fish wrapped in banana leaf with spice paste and then steamed or grilled over charcoal; the leaf is not eaten, per Wikipedia. Menus in English call it fish or seafood "in banana leaf," as Tirta Sari's does.
The sambal matters. Bali's own is sambal matah, a raw sambal of shallots, lemongrass and bird's eye chilli (Wikipedia). Ask for rice with the fish, and for greens order plecing kangkung, blanched water spinach under a chilli sambal, a speciality of Bali and Lombok (Wikipedia).
Sit on the floor if you like. Lesehan means low tables and mats; Tanjung Alam and Pidade both offer it.

How to Fit It In
Seafood fits the shape of a Lovina day. Take the dolphin boat at dawn and have fish for lunch at Tanjung Alam or on the beach at Anturan. Or save it for the evening and eat at The Sunset Bar as the light goes. Singaraja and Kerobokan make a good afternoon with the Singaraja old town. Pemuteran and The Menjangan belong to a day in the west, around snorkelling or a boat to Menjangan.
Practical Notes
- Ask before it is cooked. Which fish, how much it weighs, what it costs.
- Cash. Warungs usually want cash. Resorts take cards. See Bali currency.
- Lunch or dinner. Every entry links to its own page; hours change, so check before driving out.
- Bones. A whole grilled fish comes on the bone. Ask for a fillet if you would rather not pick.

Where can I eat fresh seafood in Lovina? Ikan Bakar Tanjung Alam on the main road through Kalibukbuk sells seafood bought from local fishermen, according to a Sightseeing Bali report. Is there a fish market in Lovina? We found no official source for a public fish market in Lovina, so we do not point you to one. The fish grills above buy from local fishermen.
